AutoCAD Raster Design 2010
Licensing Details
Individual Single Seat Standalone Licence
An individual stand-alone licence entitles the purchaser to run AutoCAD Raster Design on a single workstation. It’s an ideal solution for individuals and small workgroups because it doesn’t require centralised licence management.
AutoCAD Raster Design may be installed and activated on one additional workstation, such as a home or remote workstation, provided that the workstations are not used concurrently, are used exclusively by the same person, and are owned or under the control of the licence holder.
After purchasing AutoCAD Raster Design, you can install and use the product for a specified time before registering and activating it. After the grace period expires, your product stops working until you register and activate it. Activate your licence at any time during the grace period or after it expires. If you have several stand-alone licences for products running on separate workstations, keep track of which serial number has been used on each computer to ensure smooth upgrades.
Registration & Activation
When you install your unlicensed copy of AutoCAD Raster Design, you are prompted to enter your serial number. When you start your product for the first time, you are prompted to enter registration information. The registration process automatically generates a request code. To receive an activation code, you can transmit the request code to Autodesk over an Internet connection or contact Autodesk by email, fax, or telephone. Once the activation code has been entered, the product is fully licensed.
Floating Network Licence
A central server dynamically and instantaneously allocates network licences from a pool of licences when AutoCAD Raster Design is opened on your network. When the product is closed, the server returns the network licence to the pool. Floating network licences are not tied to a particular workstation or installation, so this method provides a flexible and efficient approach if users run more than one floating network license, run AutoCAD Raster Design intermittently, or change physical location frequently, or when administrators need centralised reporting and tracking tools.
Users can borrow network licences for remote use for periods of up to six months. After the licence expires, the server automatically returns it to the main licence pool. Remote users who log in to your network over a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection are issued licences in the same way as perpetually connected users. Each seat of the network licence may also be installed and activated on one additional workstation for each user, such as a home or remote workstation, provided that the user’s two workstations are not used concurrently, are used exclusively by the same person, and are owned or under the control of the licence holder.
The network licence server is based on Macrovision Corporation’s FLEXlm server, the de facto industry-standard licence management technology. Included with the software, SAMreport-Lite tracking reports let administrators monitor total licences used per department, hours of usage per week, number of licence requests denied, and more—important data for licence administration, budgeting, and forecasting.
Network licensing also gives administrators control over software access. Licences can be moved between users without having to install or uninstall software, and individuals can be guaranteed or denied access to licences. In addition, the network administrator can set up specific network licence features, such as borrowing a licence from the network.
Registration & Activation
The network administrator registers and activates the network licence. Once this step is complete, the licence server dynamically allocates licences using the FLEXlm server.
Activation and registration for network licences depend on the deployment model chosen by the network administrator. There are three network licence deployment models: the single licence server, distributed licence server, and redundant licence server. No matter which model is selected, the network administrator registers and activates the network licences, making the process transparent to the user.
Installation & Deployment
The single licence server provides one central licence server that allocates licences throughout the network. This configuration requires a reliable, low-latency network connection to maintain the link between the client and server. The FLEXlm server allows for brief periods of downtime, typically less than 15 minutes, after which the client is warned that contact with the network has been lost. The network administrator registers and activates the server one time to obtain the pool of authorised network licences.
The distributed licence server configuration allows a computer to work through a list of network licence servers to obtain a network licence. Each workstation stores the location of some or all of the available network licence servers. This configuration allows for communication over wide-area networks and offers protection against network failures. In this deployment model, a separate licence must be created for each seat in the pool.
The redundant licence server configuration provides protection against network failure by sharing a single pool of network licences among three servers, which must be in constant communication across a high-availability, low-latency network. The network administrator registers and activates one server one time to obtain the pool of authorised network licences. This master licence is backed up on each of the redundant servers.
