Visual Analytics gets better with Tecplot 10 release 2
Current Tecplot Extended Update and Support Service clients are entitled to the new Tecplot 10 revision — Release 2 for FREE! Tecplot has extensive 2-D and 3-D capabilities for visualising data from analyses, simulations and experiments. It helps you explore your data, produce informative 2-D and 3-D views, create presentation quality plots and animations, and share your results via the Web.
New Features in Version 10 - Release 2 (Changes from Tecplot 10, Release 1 to Release 2)
Flash (SWF) Export Options
- Flash (SWF) Export Options let you create high-quality, true color animations.
- Tecplot’s Flash output is extremely flexible. You select movie width, quality, size, speed and smoothness. Combined these options create vivid, eye-pleasing graphics.
- Flash plays in QuickTime and other freely distributed media players. Flash files can also be inserted and viewed directly in HTML Web documents and MS PowerPoint.
- Flash can be viewed in any browser (and on any platform) with the Flash Player Plug-in. It is estimated that 97.4% of Web browsers already have Flash Player installed, and more than 436 million people can view Flash immediately.
3-D Text
- Use macros or add-on applications to attach text to any location in 3-D space. As the view is rotated, the text automatically orientates to the viewing plane, ensuring it is always readable. The full range of text options including font, color, and size can be specified.

Flash Advantages
- True Color and JPEG compression
- Web friendliness
- Control file size versus image quality
- Platform independent
- Plays directly within Web pages
- Plays in QuickTime and other freely distributed players
- Inserted easily into PowerPoint
Flash Export Dialog
- As with all export options you select the area to print.
- The animation width is controllable.
- Antialiasing smooths the pixels for more eye-pleasing images.
- Supersampling is our method of antialiasing that renders the screen image at a much higher resolution than the current screen display, and then scales and filters the image to the final image resolution.
- Both optimisation choices result in the exact quality and playback speed. Only if you have very large files/animations, will the optimise for speed option be useful. It will generate animations more quickly (10-20%), but will result in larger files.
Flash Image Type Options - three image types available
- True Color: Lossless compression (no loss of information). This produces the highest quality animations.
- JPEG: Quality setting (same as for JPEG export). Ideal for Web presentation of continuous tone images.
- 256 Colors: Each frame has its own 256 color table. When your animation has less than 256 (simple XY and non-continuous color plots) this may produce smaller files of the same quality as True Color and JPEG.
- Note: Different combinations of the above settings will produce different quality and size files. Experiment with the different options to get your desired output.
Flash on the Web
- Flash file can be inserted into Web and HTML documents using several different Web design tools such as Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive, as well as free tools and using straight handcode.
- Once inserted, Flash movies play directly within your browser. No outside media player is needed to launch the animation.
